Hi everyone. Obviously it's been a while without a peep from Dale or me, and a lot of you are wondering what is up. I've gotten some very nice emails from people a little concerned about the growing silence. Others may have assumed that, like some times before when there were gaps between episodes, we would return eventually with another comic.

I wanted to tell all of you before making the announcement on the front page: ALIL is officially on hiatus. Dale and I have been increasingly busy with our careers away from the comic. It was getting really hard to balance ALIL – which is hugely time consuming – with other demands.

As for all of you, It's been awesome to have such a great readership. Personally, I'll always enjoy reading your insightful remarks about the comic in the "Comments on Updates" section.

We're still living and breathing, writing and drawing, so you can definitely expect more from us in some form or another! We'll have a mailing list form on our front page so we can periodically let you all know when we're up to something new. (Actually, can anyone recommend a nice mailing list service?)

Again, thank you for reading and liking our comic, and we hope you'll look forward to our future work!

See you on the winding paths....

Sincerely,
David

Personally, I just figured you guys were dead

What's going to happen to the messageboard?

PS Jeff Rowland used to use http://notifylist.com/ to send out his mailing list back in the post-When I Grow Up, pre-Teenage Billionaire Psychopath days.

I'm not sure if I'm mature enough to handle this.

Well, good luck with everything, David. Hope to hear from you soon.

Doubtful as I am that you'll want to, Habits, you can migrate over to the KW forums when these disappear. All you kids are welcome, if you haven't already made the journey.

It's just like the ALIL forums, only with slightly less spam!

Rest in Peace, ALILBTDII... there's a lot of wonderful things that'd be missing from the internet if you hadn't come along.

Thanks, guys. I don't want any of you to have mental breakdowns, but I'm glad this news came close to provoking a few! I would have been worried otherwise...

I'm not going to do close the forums or anything, at least not now.

Hmm...

Thanks for the tip, Habits. We've now got a mailing list entry thing on the front page in the Announcements column. I hope all of you will enter your emails so I can contact you when I'm doing something exciting!

Speaking of exciting things, David... I've just sent you an email with an exciting proposal. Let me know if it doesn't arrive.

Okay, I'm checking now! I got your other email, by the way. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I will...

You know what would make me stop crying? Maybe letting us buy some stuff from the store! Maybe "Best of" prints or something?

Come on! Huzzah for commercialism...

Please let me give you my money...

This is a sad occasion, indeed. You guys depart on a golden rug leaving us laborers behind on the ground coated with soot. We will reassure our families tonight over a modest dinner that one can rest soundly knowing ALIL never jumped the shark. Pure pristine resides on a remote server’s hard drive in California - in the form of ones and zeros - interpreted by us as ALIL.

PS – on a more personal note, David, the timing couldn’t have been any worse – I’m going to have to send back that 50” plasma TV I just ordered with the last two ALIL checks. This was my only steady income. I’m not sure what I’m going to do, the fall TV season just started up...what I am supposed to do, use the public library?!!

I know, Chuck, it's rough. And what concerns me more than anything else is the junk food binge this is likely to provoke. Stay strong!
